Men’s Outreach Worker

TEMPORARY JOB POSTING
10 hours per week at a rate of $20.83/hr for 24 weeks

 

The Men’s Outreach Worker will provide activities and opportunities for men to develop comradeship and social interactions with other men in the community. As a result of the connections accomplished through non-threatening discussions, the Men’s Outreach Worker will also provide referrals for men who wish to engage in more personal and specific topic areas. He will be responsible for creating a safe positive environment that is conducive for men learning from and supporting each other in a healthy manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize social activities for men within the community and be an integral part of the activity.
  • Set guidelines and perimeters that complement the operations of the events planned and provide clear and safe boundaries with regards to acceptable behaviour.
  • Assist men to identify and access referrals to professional services such as legal information, advocacy, training and other self- improvement initiatives.
  • Make direct referrals for men to obtain counselling services.
  • Recognize potential crisis or safety situations facing the men involved in the program and help develop strategies to deal with the situation at hand. (i.e. Appropriate referrals)
  • Develop an ongoing plan to ensure community awareness of this program and maintain an up to date public relations schedule.
  • Maintain a record of stats that support the need for this men’s program and develop criteria to help with accessing ongoing funding.

  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Knowledge and ability to organize and coordinate recreational activities for a group of men
  • Have a complete knowledge of the importance of confidentiality and issues pertaining to confidentiality
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the position
  • Model self-respect while being present, positive and interactive with participants

 Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have an up-to-date Criminal Record Check
  • Experience conducting group activities, recreational or otherwise

Operations Manager / Executive Assistant

FULL-TIME POSITION

 

 

Job Summary:  The Operations Manager / Executive Assistant will assist and support the organization’s Executive Director with both, Arrow and Slocan Lakes Community Services (ASLCS) and Halcyon Assisted Living Society (HALS). They will support the Executive Director in carrying out high-level program development, policy research and analysis, advocacy, organizing, negotiations, communications, coalition building, organizational leadership, management and fund raising.

Core Responsibilities:

Program Support and Management – Assist the Executive Director in preparing program materials, policy research and analysis, related program and Society activities, program evaluations  and program management.

Communication support – Help the Executive Director monitor, prepare and disseminate written and spoken communications across multiple media.

Administrative supports – Schedule meetings, organize travel logistics, maintain the calendar and provide support to the Executive Director.

Information Management – Help capture, process, and organize data and tasks to ensure effective management of Executive Director’s work load.

Hours of work are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

A Job Coach provides specialized on-site training to employees. Typically, a Job Coach will help an employee learn to perform his/her job effectively, efficiently and safely.

Duties include:

  • Maintain complete client and employer confidentiality
  • Assist clients to understand all aspects of the job position
  • Identify and implement supports client may need
  • Facilitate client confidence in performing their job independently
  • Complete monthly reports including newly identified barriers, new skills learned and natural supports developed at the work place.

The Job Coach will work under a Site Supervisor assisting clients to gain employment skills in cutting, splitting, stacking and delivering firewood with the additional purpose of developing team work, communication and safety at the workplace.

Arrow & Slocan Lakes Community Services is seeking a Social Venture Coordinator to join their dynamic team.  This is a one year contract position with the possibility of an extension.

Summary: The main purpose of this role is to participate in the development and growth of social ventures and to provide supervision and support to clients with diverse needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Understanding of social ventures and supported employment practices
  • Knowledge of recycling, firewood and shredding industries
  • Familiar with business practices, procedures, sales, and knowledge of administrative accounting functions pertaining to business operations
  • Ability to cost materials and labour to provide accurate quotes to customers
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards of BC and WorkSafe BC
  • Ability to work with general and specialized populations with diverse needs
  • Effectively support a work crew and instruct individuals to perform tasks as independently as possible
  • Supervise and instruct and carry out group work, working as an active member to ensure all facets of jobs are completed.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders/partners
  • Proven experience with writing grant applications
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Social Media and Marketing
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote existing Social Venture programs and potential new opportunities

Summary: Assisting clients in the Employment Services Centre (ESC) resource area: supporting and monitoring clients accessing self-serve services. Assisting clients with job search activities, as well as creating competitive resumes and cover letters.  Developing and maintaining comprehensive, current and accurate labour market information and employment related resources.  Creating and distributing promotional material, updating and maintaining website and social media, and scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education, prefer a related post-secondary degree or diploma, or the equivalent of education and experience

Project Coordinator: Better at Home Program (position filled)

ARROW LAKES BETTER AT HOME PROGRAM (BAH) is seeking to hire a Project Coordinator

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the program including volunteer recruitment, training, infrastructure development, promotional events, supervision and evaluation. The Project Coordinator will receive support and supervision from the Arrow Lakes (BAH) Advisory Committee.

The successful candidate must be computer literate (word, excel) and be willing to learn a computer based scheduling and data collection system. They will also be creative and energetic with excellent communication and writing skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have education, training and experience in the area of administration and program development related to the not-for-profit human service area. A combination of education and related experience will be considered.

The hours for the position are 17.5 per week at a rate of $20.02.

Counsellor: Children Who Witness Abuse (position filled)

Provides individual and group counselling to children who have witnessed violence within their home environment; supports caregivers by providing them with the relevant information regarding the impact of abuse on children, counsels caregivers on parenting issues, referring them to the appropriate services as required; responds to the need to provide public information and education on the effects of witnessing abuse and on dating violence.

Term and hours : Permanent part-time; 70 hours per month; majority of hours in Nakusp with travel to New Denver office as required.

Qualifications : A Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care or related area. Two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in the area of individual and group work, counselling of children and families; excellent knowledge of the dynamics of family violence. Successful candidate must pass criminal record check and have a valid drivers licence.

Pay : As per HSA Collective Agreement – Grid 8, Step 1, $28.93/hr
